Addressing Food Insecurity by Investing Across the Regional Food System

The MetroWest Hunger Relief Fund is one of the best avenues for putting an end to food insecurity in your community.

Supporting your local food pantry or community meal program is important; however, a solely local approach is simply not enough to end a growing regional problem. Through our work with more than 60 organizations focusing on combating food insecurity in MetroWest, we have seen the many obstacles contributing to the problem of hunger here at home.

Prior to 2020, more than 10% of our neighbors struggled to access healthy and consistent meals due to the rising cost of living, competing household needs like transportation or medical bills, and expensive food that was sometimes difficult to access on a regular basis.

Exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity has risen In the words of A Place to Turn’s Executive Director, “There is such a misconception about people who need food assistance. Our clients don’t sleep on park benches or spend their money on cigarettes instead of food. Many are working two jobs with no benefits or they are single parents.”
